I just wrote about the future of Michael Bay if the Transformers flops, which is pretty much inconceivable. Well, Michael Bay already has another job so he doesn’t need to worry, and that’s to direct the film version of the video game Prince of Persia…so maybe he should worry.

A video game movie directed by Michael Bay? Is this doomed to fail, or do two wrongs (1 - another video game film, 2 - another Michael Bay film) actually make a right? The Prince of Persia is a popular game, but so were countless others turned into horrible movies. Turning video games into movies is a trend that won’t end, let’s face it. Fans of the games go to the movies, cha-ching.

This dead horse is beaten, if you ask me, which you haven’t, but you should have.

Video games turned movie have failed over and over, but I guess I can’t follow that up with “and not because of a lack of effort”. Why should the flick for Gears of War be any different? It’s not like there’s some A-list director attached with the last name of del Toro (yes, I’m bitter he isn’t directing Halo, okay?). In fact, there’s no director attached at all. So why don’t we just leave it that way? The way I look at it, all video game movies with directors have been awful, so let’s let the key grip direct the next one….let’s see, oops, no key grip attached either! Ohhhhh lord!

If you haven’t figured it out, Gears of War is going to be turned into a movie, and by New Line. As if the money matters.

Microsoft, along with producer Peter Jackson, announced they will be developing a new type of video game to go along with their movie version of the hit game Halo. This new game will be a morphing of film and video game, to supposedly give players a new, or different, gaming experience.

All I can say is “we’ll see”. As our computers get better this morphing becomes more tantalizing, but this really isn’t even close to the first attempt to merge the two mediums. Many of today’s games have a cinematical element to them. Maybe the next Halo game will just make us have to upgrade to Windows Vista to play it…sneaky bastards.

Halo to be a game, film, and gamefilm.
